BELT COLOURS - black and amber

OTHER INFORMATION

Personnel of the Queen Alexandra’s Mounted Rifles wear a stable belt that is coloured black, amber, and black. Not only are these colours the traditional ones associated with the original Queen Alexandra’s Mounted Rifles, they are also the colours of the Taranaki, where the unit’s foundations were laid in the early 1860s.

The belt was designed after the separation of the Queen Alexandra’s Squadron and the Waikato/Wellington East Coast Squadron. The new unit planned to adopt the stable belt of its allied regiment, the 14th/20th Hussars. Unfortuntely it was discovered that a belt of this design was being worn by the 6th Hauraki Regiment and the Queen Alexandra’s Squadron decided that to prevent confusion, it would use the colours of black, amber and black.
