THE BORDER REGIMENT

THE BORDER REGIMENT STABLE BELT

The belt was in three colours. Two broad stripes (1 5/16th" - 32mm) of Kendal green (the old facing colour of the 55th Westmoreland Regiment) and purple, and one narrow stripe (3/8th" - 9mm) of Lonsdale yellow (facing colour of the 34th Cumberland Regiment and later the Border Regiment). The examples we have are two strap brown leather fastening.

The purple colour appeared after 1881 in Border Regimental ties, blazers, caps, etc and we think was introduced to be more distinctive, because a number of other regiments post-1881 had green and yellow as their regimental colours.
